All you need to know before you book a session

  • Are you DBS checked?
Yes, I have a full, current Disclosure and Barring Service certificate. In addition, I undertook TES / EduCare Safegurding in Education training in October 2020.
  • What are your rates?
I charge £30 per hour of tuition. For this price, you will receive: - A full hour of focused, one to one attention - Subject expertise and enthusiasm - Original and bespoke resources and worksheets - Help with planning and long-term goals - Support outside the sessions via email, phone, text or WhatsApp - As much homework as you wish!
  • Where are you based?
I live in Cardiff, Wales. I can teach at my home or travel to students in the local area. If you are outside of this area, I will be happy to tutor online. Tuition sessions in my home are conducted in a clean, quiet and well-lit room, with access to any required materials, Wi-Fi and a printer. And I'll always offer you a cup of tea.
  • Will you travel to my address?
I can travel within Cardiff and the local area. For longer journeys, I request a reasonable travel supplement to contribute towards fuel and extra time. This is agreed with the family or student on a case by case basis.
  • Can we do a trial session to see if it's a good fit?
Of course! The normal charge will still apply, but there is no pressure to book further sessions if you decide not to continue. That said, I will always be happy to work with you to meet your requirements.
  • Can you help with exams, interviews and portfolios?
Absolutely. I have helped many students with the challenges of preparing for exams. Art and Design portfolios are also a specialty of mine, and I can support students in interview preparation and oracy presentations. Many of my students have achieved top grades and gained places on the Further or Higher education courses of their choice.
  • Can you help with essays and dissertations?
Helping with essays is one of my favourite tasks! From young learners to Undergraduate and Masters students, I've got you covered. I'll guide you through the structuring, drafting, editing and referencing process with enthusiasm and rigour.
  • Can you teach students with Additional Needs?
I have experience with a variety students with Additional Needs. Each student is different, and I work closely with families to ensure I provide the appropriate support. Please get in touch to discuss your needs.
  • How effective is online tuition?
Students respond in different ways to the online format. For some, the lack of face to face interaction means online is not suitable. But for many others, it can be very effective, as there are so many ways to share and communicate digtially. I use Skype and Zoom, and share files via email and WhatsApp. Parents are always included in the communication and are welcome to drop in on the sessions at any time.
  • Can I book blocks of sessions?
Yes, I welcome block bookings, either for regular days and times or for sessions to be taken when convenient. I can offer discounts on block and long-term bookings, on a case by case basis.
  • What if I need to cancel or reschedule a session?
Sometimes changes are unavoidable, but I request that a minimum of 24 hours notice is given; more if possible. Within 24 hours, I usually charge 50% of the total fee for the session. I always discuss circumstances on a case by case basis.
